Seasonal Clips
We are frequently asked, "When is the best time to prune trees?". In many cases, the winter months (December - March) are the best time. Pruning during the dormant season may be necessary for some species of trees (American elm, white barked birch, etc) to help reduce the occurrence of insect attacks to the fresh wounds, as the insect is dormant. Other species, like fruit trees and crabapples, respond much better to pruning when dormant - the arborist can be more aggressive when pruning density and creating lateral growth to encourage fruit production. Additionally, winter pruning also allows the arborist to see the dead limbs and crossing/conflicting limbs better, as the deciduous trees have lost their leaves for the season. Winter is also a great time for tree removals. With the ground frozen, your yard can be accessed with our equipment without causing lawn damage. During the removal process of the tree, falling limbs and wood do not cause lawn damage. Winter is the best time to evaluate the structure and health of your trees and shrubs. Hazardous limbs over homes, sidewalks and driveways can be identified and removed. A plant's size can be reduced (especially if done in winter). Call today to schedule an appointment with one of our licensed Arborists to have your trees evaluated. |
